The Government Wants to Ban our Pets!
Red-Foot Tortise Hatchling The government is at it again with House Bill (HR) 669. This bill, if passed, would prohibit the breeding, sale and transportation of any pet/ animal deemed (by the government) as exotic.
I say ‘exotic’ and not non-native as the bill states because they are allowing a handful of non-native species to be exempt from this bill.
If you share your life with birds, guinea pigs, ferrets, hamsters, gerbils, snakes, lizards, turtles/ tortises or fish, this bill will have an effect on you personally.
Please visit:http://scienceblogs.com/grrlscientist/2009/04/hr669_nonnative_wildlife_invas.php for more inforation on this bill, including what you can do to help stop it.
- Should The Government Bail Out the Mortgage Companies?
- The Government-commissioned Review of Home Education out today!
- Which is Better? The Government or the Private Sector?
- STATEWIDE SMOKING BAN IN PA IN 10 DAYS, BECAUSE THE GOVERNMENT CARES ABOUT OUR HEALTH.
- I think it’s time the government takes some action

this is outrageous! At first I was thinking (probably like most people would) about Tigers, Lions, Monkeys, those types of thigs. Then I started reading about it more and realized that my beloved Cockatiel may be considered “Exotic” because - even though he was bred in America- his breed is native to “the land down under”
Also, the fish in my small tank are tropical. I’ve looked high and low, but didn’t see any tropical fish in Michigan that would be considered “native.”
Thank you for the timly post. I have already contacted my politicians.
